2003-12-18 | On 18 December 2003, Ambassador Salehi of Iran and the Director General of the IAEA signed an Additional Protocol to Iran's NPT safeguards agreement, granting Agency inspectors greater authority in verifying the country's nuclear programme. Iran has stated that it is acting in accordance with the Protocol's provisions, pending the Protocol's formal entry into force. The Additional Protocol requires States to provide an expanded declaration of their nuclear activities and grants the Agency broader rights of access to sites in the country. Read more »

2003-12-04 | In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Atoms for Peace and in celebration of President Eisenhower's vision, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei accepted, on behalf of the Agency, a bronze bust of President Eisenhower presented by the US Ambassador, Mr. Kenneth Brill as a gift of the people of the United States. 2003-12-03 | On 4 December 2003 States are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the "Atoms for Peace" proposal in December 1953 that led to the IAEA's creation. The US Government is donating to the IAEA a bust of former US President Dwight Eisenhower, who voiced the historic proposal before the UN General Assembly 50 years ago. US Ambassador Kenneth Brill will present the bust to IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei. Read more »
2003-11-17 | The IAEA supported International Conference on Research Reactor Utilization, Safety, Decommissioning, Fuel and Waste Management concluded 14 November in Santiago, Chile. Over 100 experts from across the globe attended the five-day conference. In his address, IAEA Deputy Director General for Nuclear Safety and Security, Mr. Taniguchi Tomihiro, told delegates that the research reactor community has had a long and successful history of both productive and safe operations; however, nearly two-thirds of the world's operating research reactors are now over 30 years old.
